A Sunny Place for Shady People

Pithy, contrarian, politically incorrect and curmudgeonly rants on sex, money, power and politics and religion and philosophy. In short: Nothing matters, everything changes and there are no guarantees. The rest is rationalization and bribery. (c) Tom Milner 2002-2003. DIRECTORY of offensive POSTS at Archives: 07/09/03. These rants have appeared with some regularity for about a year, and it is time for us to move on now to other writing.

While we can no longer promise to meet a weekly Monday deadline, we will continue to rant, at whim, when stupidity and avarice so move us.

So this is not yet the Final Adieu. (Check by from time to time, and thanks for the visits this past year.)

We will, in parting temporarily, share two financial enthusiasms and one political endorsement.

Long have we been impressed (and profited from) the honest penny-pinchers at one of the nation's largest no commission (no load) mutual fund families, with its numerous stock and bond portfolios and index funds (and its very low administrative expenses and efficiency): The Vanguard Group. (They also offer employers 401(k) plans.)

(The worst mutual funds: Franklin-Templeton, Fidelity, Putnam, Strong, Janus, and any sponsored by brokerage houses.)

A more recent discovery has been a cable (CNBC) financial show remarkably free of cant and pomposity brimming with the savvy energy of its hostess: Suze Orman.

Finally, we concluded that one of the few really compelling reasons to vote (often) for Howard Dean is that his zealous, intense rhetoric will so rattle the mindless Bush in debate (out of handlers' reach) that he'll be revealed for the ignorant, arrogant scum he's always been.
